SEDD organizes “The Second Industrial Meeting”

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” organized “The Second Industrial Meeting” virtually to investors of the industrial sector which was attended by number of officials and investors in the industrial sector. During the meeting, the latest developments in the industrial licensing procedures in the emirate and ways to develop the industrial sector, empower national industries and enhance the competitiveness of national products were reviewed.

This meeting, which was held virtually, is the second in a series of meetings that have been held since last July with national and international companies operating in the industrial sectors in Sharjah. These meetings will continuously be held in the future in order to strengthen the relationship with the industrial sector system, and to establish a new phase of cooperation and building sustainable partnerships.

The meeting included an introduction of SEDD’s services and strategic objectives, which aim to empower national industries and enhance the competitiveness of national products. Also, it emphasized that SEDD works to provide an appropriate industrial business environment for local and international investors, ensure sustainable industrial development and enhance resilience in its sectors for after the pandemic. Likely, the meeting discussed encouraging innovation, adopting advanced technology and the tools of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in addition to setting the environment and stimulating capabilities, such as attracting specialized talent.

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the advantages offered by UAE industrial sector in general and Sharjah’s industrial sector in particular, to companies and entrepreneurs in the field of industries, including a developed infrastructure and a flexible legislative system that supports the experimentation and development of innovative ideas and projects that contribute to raising the level of efficiency and productivity.

Additionally, the meeting focused on developing future visions to confront challenges and innovate legislative, technological and administrative solutions. Such thing is done to enable the industrial sector, ensure the sustainability of its development, and contribute to SEDD’s realization of its vision in leading the economic development in the emirate. Also, it adopted the suggestions that could contribute to supporting and developing the sector in the post-pandemic recovery stage. Likewise, it discussed the role of the private sector in supporting and developing the industrial sector, supporting economic development in Sharjah, and enhancing the emirate's domestic product.

HE Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, stressed that the Department is always keen to strengthen Sharjah’s position as a regional and global center for industry and contribute to achieving a competitive and innovative national knowledge-based economy. HE clarified that the Department reorganizes the importance of the industrial sector in supporting the policy of diversifying the economy, keeping pace with the changes and transformations taking place, and introducing them to investors.

HE explained that the meeting came within SEDD’s efforts to clarify the latest developments in the procedures for industrial licensing in the emirate and ways to develop the industrial sector, empower national industries, and enhance the competitiveness of national products. Also, it highlights communication with workers in all economic activities to inform them of developments in the sector, get to know their opinions and address any obstacles they may face in order to ensure the provision of an appropriate industrial business environment for local and international investors, and to ensure sustainable industrial development.

From her side, Mariam Nasir Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Industrial Affairs Department, said that Sharjah has succeeded in creating an appropriate and strong legislative and legal environment that supports the future visions and plans of the industrial sector and is able to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution. Also, it works to apply the government's orientations to make Sharjah a leading global model in the proactive confrontation of the challenges of the industrial future. Also, she explained that the industrial sector is one of the main drivers supporting economic development in Sharjah and plays a pivotal role in enhancing the emirate's domestic product. Likely, she stressed that Sharjah is proceeding in its direction to achieve the targeted economic diversification through government laws and legislation that support and encourage the industrial sector.

Moreover, Al Suwaidi emphasized that SEDD aims to create an ideal climate for investment and business continuity that contributes to encouraging factories and companies to enhance their production, and to provide all means and capabilities to raise the volume of production. She added that SEDD is strengthening its efforts to help factories reach their maximum production capacity through implementing supportive initiatives and programs. Likely, she illustrated that the virtual meetings constitutes an excellent opportunity for investors in the industrial sector to discuss the challenges they face, and exchange experiences and opinions to reach solutions that guarantee the continuity of companies and factories and enhance economic growth in Sharjah.
