Sultan Al Suwaidi: “SEDD will never compromise in protecting the emirate's markets”

 

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” conducted number of inspection campaigns on the emirate’s beauty centers and saloons in order to ensure their commitment to the approved laws and regulations as well as the prices in the price lists permitted by the Department. Such campaigns are organized to ensure the safety of markets especially with the Eid Al Fitr occasion.

Thus, SEDD organized many inspection campaigns to ensure consumer rights, and prevent the cases of fraud and manipulating with prices especially in Eid time. Also, it emphasized that it works through its commercial officers of Commercial Control and Protection Department to guarantee the commitment of shops and markets with laws and prices approved. Therefore, these campaigns come within the framework of the Department's keenness to protect consumers and ensure safety of Sharjah’s markets. Also, they are held in line with its mission to achieve the economic development of the Emirate.

Commenting on that, HE Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, stated that the Department will never fail to protect the markets of the emirate from those who works to make material gains at the expense of people through commercial fraud. HE noted that SEDD will continue to carry out its role to protect the community from those who try to harm the people and to make quick and illegal profits.

In addition, HE added that SEDD conducts awareness and control roles through the inspection campaigns, especially on beauty centers. Also, it works to inform traders of the need to comply with the standards and requirements adopted by SEDD, to ensure compliance with the implementation of such decisions, to serve the community and ensure its safety.

On the other hand, Salim Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department at SEDD, clarified that inspection campaigns on the emirate’s beauty centers and saloons aim to ensure their commitment to the approved laws and regulations as well as the prices in the price lists permitted by the Department. Such campaigns are organized to ensure the safety of markets especially with the Eid Al Fitr occasion, which may affect consumer rights.

Al Suwaidi added that is working to intensify the inspection campaigns in the markets regularly implemented throughout the year by the competent team of Commercial Officers. It should be noted that these inspection campaigns are intensified during the days before Eid and the holiday season. They are implemented in order to emphasize the control of the markets and raise awareness among traders and consumers and to combat all aspects of commercial fraud as well as to reduce the negative practices that may resort to some traders.

In addition, he added that they could place their complaint by visiting the consumer protection website www.shjconsumer.ae. All of this fall within the context of active participation in controlling markets and ensuring rights in order to take necessary actions.
